Michael Winkelmann

Chartered Accountant and Director of a small firm in SW England

We have been in practice for more than 25 years, supporting small businesses across the Southwest.

There are eight of us now, and as the firm has grown, so have the regulatory demands. Anti-money laundering compliance in particular has become a much more significant part of our work.

When AML was first introduced, everything was managed manually with checklists, printed forms and spreadsheets. This system worked when client numbers were smaller. But as the business expanded and the regulations evolved, that approach became impractical.

“AMLCC gave us confidence in our AML – and impressed
our inspector.”

It was fragmented and time-consuming, and it was increasingly difficult to maintain consistency.

We were using one system for ID checks, another for spreadsheets to monitor due diligence and a separate record for training. None of it connected. For a small practice, it created unnecessary complexity.

Finding an integrated solution

We came across AMLCC through FYIdocs, our document management software. The integration between the two systems immediately stood out as a positive. It offered the joined-up approach we needed.

I take a careful approach before implementing any new system. We have all seen software that claims to be a complete solution but falls short in practice. AMLCC was different. From the first demo, it was clear that it had been designed by people who genuinely understand how regulated firms operate.

It covers everything — client onboarding, risk assessments, policies and training — and the structure makes sense. We were impressed with way it covered all areas of AML and had an established track record. Most importantly the team behind it are knowledgeable and straightforward, which gave me confidence to go ahead.

Onboarding that works

We chose to implement AMLCC in mid-2025, during a quieter period of the year. Implementation is never without its challenges but the AMLCC team made it a smooth process.

They didn’t just provide a tick list on how to transfer the data and leave us to it. They made sure the system worked properly for our practice. Lisa and her colleagues went above and beyond what we normally expect to help, with a level of responsiveness that’s rare.Their support was professional and proactive, and it confirmed that we’d chosen the right platform.

Once AMLCC was fully implemented, the difference was immediate. It’s a complete, well-structured system that gives you visibility and control. Two or three of us led the setup, and now the wider team are using it more confidently too.

We were ready when the inspector called

Shortly after implementation, we had an AML inspection. AMLCC made the process straightforward. Everything the inspector needed was readily available in one place.

It gave us clarity and confidence, and demonstrated to the Inspector that we take our obligations seriously. The inspection went well and AMLCC played a key part in the positive outcome.

It’s made our AML processes more organised and efficient, and it gives us the assurance that we’re meeting our responsibilities properly. It’s a system we trust and one that stands up to scrutiny.

What others have said

“We had the man from the ICAEW here yesterday to carry out a QAD practice review. We got a clean bill of health – not a single action point…That is in no small measure due to AMLCC so I just wanted to say ‘thank you’”

“Thank you for such a perfect and informative [solution]. You have given me a clear direction for my AML training and CPD.”

“I just wanted to say ‘thank you’ to you, Richard, and all the team at AMLCC for providing a service that really does minimise the burden of AML compliance.”

“What a refreshing pleasure working with a company who actually listens to the feedback from their customers and communicates with them!”

“Your team they have been excellent from the moment Fiona did a demo for me with only 15 minutes notice, and thoroughly going through the AMLCC product, answering the many questions I had! It was at this point at which I made up my mind this is the sort of business I want to work with for my AML.”
