I’ve been in practice for more than 40 years, working as an accountant and tax agent for clients across Norfolk. My client relationships haven’t changed much in that time. But everything around them has. Anti-money laundering compliance has become one of the heaviest parts of the job.
The real pressure is proving I’ve done AML correctly
No matter how long I’ve worked with a client, some for 40 years or more, and no matter how confident I am in them, that isn’t enough on its own.

What matters is being able to show the evidence of what I’ve done to know them properly and manage the risk. Without that evidence, HMRC can decide I’m not compliant and non-compliance is what puts my licence to practise on the line.

I’ve been with AMLCC since around 2008, originally through my membership of the ICPA. From day one, the customer support has been priceless.
Right now it’s David Ericson who talks me through the platform when I need a hand. That kind of direct, patient support has made a real difference.
I’ve worked through the training videos with my son David, who works alongside me. And when I complete a risk assessment for a client, I also value the explanatory notes built into the questions themselves. Having that extra context there makes a real difference.
Evidence I can stand behind
The biggest change for me is knowing I have a proper evidenced trail of everything I’ve done to manage risk. I can give my supervisor, HMRC, direct access to that if I’m ever asked, which is a real point of reassurance.
Out of my entire client base, AMLCC’s process has identified only one client as higher risk and that’s now fully documented with mitigations in place.
After 40-odd years watching AML get more and more time consuming, I don’t think it’s possible to manage it without a structured provider behind you. AMLCC has been that for me and I count them as a genuine partner to my business, rather than just a supplier.
